Did you know that 4 out of 5 wild flowering plants and food crops in Europe depend on animal pollination?
Yet, unfortunately, our pollinators are at stake. In Europe, we have already lost many pollinator species, and we keep losing more; 1 in 3 bee and butterfly species are in trouble!
ESN has been providing more and more communication products related to pollinators lately. From producing posters, leaflets, brochures and video content to card games and virtual reality experiences, ESN has gained valuable expertise on the topic.
More than fun and games
One of the most accessible projects has been the creation of a ‘Top Trumps’-style card game called Know your Pollinators, as part of an education pack to encourage citizen engagement and to educate young people on the issue in a fun way.
The card game can be used by school teachers, by families at home, with friends or in museums as a quiz anywhere in Europe, as it was translated into all EU languages.
Adapting the game for 23 languages was one of the biggest challenges involved. Read the full article about this project to discover why!
One of the nicest parts of the project was illustration; we were blown away by our graphic designers’ output!
A virtual reality experience
The most iconic project about pollinators carried out by ESN is undoubtedly Pollinator Park.
This virtual reality experience immerses users in a futuristic pollinator-deprived world.
ESN produced this 360° virtual reality experience for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment in collaboration with Poppyns and Wayne, executive producer Cousteau and designer Vincent Callebaut, well-known for his wooden masterpieces.
The goal of Pollinator Park is to make users understand that pollinators of all kinds are essential for a sustainable future and that people and nature must co-exist in harmony.
It won an award in Belgium and was a nominee in global competitions too. Read the full Pollinator Park article to learn more.
Communicating on this issue is important of course, but you can also help save pollinators at home by creating insect hotels, going pesticide-free, growing thyme and lavender outside to welcome them, or let part of your lawn grow wild. Everyone needs to play their part and you can learn more about the EU’s efforts to safeguard our precious pollinators here.
