Almost anything can be done online, but sometimes at the expense of transparency or ethics.
Online shopping can turn into a bad surprise when the delivered goods end up being counterfeit or dangerous. Targeted ads can make you feel uncomfortable, as if your device was spying you. Lax data privacy and complicated or opaque terms and conditions are also among the obstacles faced online. One might also complain about the disinformation and abusive content moderation encountered online. While the relevant platforms have put in place different initiatives to make the internet a safer place, the EU also plays its part.
With the Digital Services Act (DSA) the EU aims to create a safer digital environment where targeted advertising is better controlled, where abusive sellers are reported and tracked easier, where content is moderated but not censored, and where our rights are clear and data is protected.
To support the European Commissions’ DG Connect in this initiative, ESN produced an inspiring video campaign in collaboration with partner W2P.
