The European Summit of Regions and Cities is the most important biennial event on the calendar of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). In 2019, the event gathered 948 participants at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania, on 14-15 March.
In the weeks running up to the summit, ESN’s social media experts coordinated a comprehensive campaign promoting content via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. During and after the summit, video content boosted engagement online and promoted the Bucharest Declaration, which was announced to stakeholders and press during the event. ESN identified 80 journalists – local and international – and managed their invitations and accommodation as well as the press conference itself. We also coordinated the conference moderators.
To ensure the smooth running of the event, ESN proposed innovative technical solutions – such as livestreaming and a 96m2 branding wall – for three conference rooms. Branded AV equipment and installation was provided, including a 48m2 projection screen, projectors, digital screens, lighting, microphones, furniture and a speakers’ podium with a lectern.

ISICEM - Event online
ESN, together with its sister company Poplar Events, has been in charge of organising the International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM) since 2013. In 2020, due to COVID-19 restrictions, ESN helped to move the event online.
Isicem Event
The International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM) is held every year in March at Square Brussels. Since 1980, it has become one of the largest events in its field and now attracts over 6 000 participants from all over the world.
Know your pollinators!
In June 2018, the Commission proposed the first-ever EU initiative to address the decline of wild pollinating insects. The aim was to improve knowledge on pollinator decline and raise awareness to engage EU citizens and promote collaboration.

One of ESN’s biggest achievements in 2019 was co-launching the Lumiere contract – a major audiovisual framework contract with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication.
Maintenance of road safety website and digital services
Since 2012, ESN’s IT and content development specialists have updated and maintained DG Move’s awareness-raising road safety website. While EU roads are the safest in the world, the number of deaths and injuries is still far too high.

To create an instantly recognisable brand, ESN’s graphics team designed a visual identity for Paddle for use on its website, business communications, marketing – and much more.

Following a request from Belgium’s Flemish Government for help to modernise its websites, ESN partnered with AUSY Belgium to design a new toolkit intended to support communication staff in launching and maintaining digital content without the need for IT specialists.
Panorama magazine
Panorama is the official magazine of the European Commission’s DG Regio. Published four or five times a year, it mainly focuses on the EU’s regional and urban policies for the general public, highlighting their positive impact with an accessible editorial and visual approach.

ESN used its diverse expertise to refresh communications and outreach produced by the Group of the Party of European Socialists (PES Group) in the Committee of the Regions (CoR).
Promoting inclusion of Roma communities
With the European Commission looking to encourage better inclusion of Roma communities, ESN was asked to develop and oversee several outreach activities for a pan-European campaign entitled ‘For Roma, with Roma’.

Single-use plastics campaign
From June to August 2019, ESN executed an online campaign for DG ENV to raise awareness about the environmental impact of single-use plastics (SUPs). The campaign targeted 21 EU countries and covered 15 languages.
